Significant Progress | UP VAN Receives EU WVTA Certification, Set to Enter the European Market

August 2024.

Recently, U POWER Tech reached another significant milestone: the UP VAN successfully obtained the EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) issued by the Swedish Transport Agency. This certification marks that U POWER’s first complete vehicle based on the skateboard chassis meets the latest mandatory entry regulations of the EU, enabling it to be exported to EU member countries and other global regions that recognize WVTA certification. This achievement not only demonstrates U POWER’s innovative capabilities in the electric vehicle sector but also highlights our unwavering commitment to high-quality products.

Currently, the European light commercial vehicle market is approximately 2 million units per year, primarily consisting of commercial vehicles under 3.5 tons, where the UP VAN is positioned. The electrification rate for this segment was about 7.5% in 2023 and is rapidly increasing each year, indicating a highly promising market outlook. The UP VAN, with its innovative design, precisely meets the current demand for urban electric commercial vehicles in the European market. It achieves an astonishingly large capacity and excellent payload capabilities within a compact body, offering a 20% improvement over similar products. With a turning radius of just 6 meters, it perfectly navigates the narrow urban roads of Europe. Additionally, thanks to the highly integrated design of the skateboard chassis, the UP VAN excels in energy efficiency. It offers a 15% increase in range compared to the world’s leading products in its class with the same amount of power, establishing its leading position in the commercial electric vehicle market. Furthermore, the UP VAN is the first to apply the OneBox system (ESC+iBooster), delivering superior braking safety and driving stability.

What is WVTA?

WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) is a mandatory certification system in the EU for automobiles, motorcycles, and other vehicles, ensuring that vehicles sold in the EU market meet relevant safety, environmental, and technical standards. Through WVTA certification, manufacturers can sell their vehicles throughout the EU without needing to repeat certification in each member country. This certification is jointly executed by the European Commission and the competent authorities of the member states.
